New York Event in January

I’m very excited to announce an upcoming appearance at New York City’s 92nd Street Y. On January 14th, I’m going to be chating about SILO with the inimitable Amor Towles, one of my favorite people and one of the greatest writers working today.

Amor knows me a little too well, so I’m probably in store for some embarrassing questions. We will also discuss our very different writing adventures, and what it was like bringing SILO from the page to the screen. This will be a few days before the season 2 finale, and just on the heels of getting seasons 3 and 4 approved by Apple. The timing couldn’t be better!

If you are in the city, come and join us. If you know other people in the city, tell them to come join us. It’s going to be a blast. It starts at 7:30pm, and all the details are here. I hope to see you there!

  1. Dang. I’ll be out of town. The last time I was there was 50+ years ago and saw Heinlein talk about Stranger in a Strange Land

Wow. That must have been cool to see Heinlein. His books were my door into SF. Before I read him, the word “science“ in Science Fiction made me think those books were only for boys. (We had very clearly designated gender roles in my house, growing up…!)

I don’t have quite as much admiration for him now, sadly. A lot of those ancient SF guys turn out to have been a bit disappointing in their personal behavior.

    Hugh:

I would so love to be there. You and Amor Towles! What a combo. I’m going to see if I can make it.

  3. I’ve become obsessed with Amor since reading “Gentleman in Moscow” and have since blown through the rest of his work, and I’ve obviously been here since the jump. So to see you both would be a dream come true, but I love just too damn far away! Is there any chance the conversation will be recorded or livestreamed? Or maybe a transcript? Anything that could help me pretend like I was there!

    1. Ahem, *live* just too damn far away (fat fingered that one)

  4. I missed the news that S3 and 4 were renewed. Congratulations! Silo is such a great TV adaptation, I can’t wait to see where it takes us.

  5. I’ll be there! Really looking forward to it.

  6. Please record the event – I live in Australia & would love to see it!

  7. I got to attend via online from Denver! Thanks for making that available. Great stuff. Now I’ve got a less tense perspective about plot changes going from the books to the series. I started watching the series on Apple TV halfway through season two switched over to the books which lasted me about a week now I’m back onto the series. Wonderful work thanks for sharing with all of us. PS you should if you get a chance try sailing Lake Granby. I learned to sail there one season on a Cat 22

  8. Missed the event

Is video going to be posted somewhere (even if we have to buy the ticket)?

I would love to know the same thing. Couldn’t get there in person!

    My too!

  10. Hugh, I am so glad this came to the screen and am very happy even with the variations to the characters and storyline as it it is still the Wool that I fell in love with when I first read it on Kindle years ago. The drove me to download the rest of the trilogy and devour it as well. And yes, I do indulge in the smug self satisfaction of knowing I read your books before they came to another audience.
I must ask, I remember quite a while back reading a report that Ridley Scott had optioned the story for movies, I assume that lapsed but does leave me to wonder what his style of filmmaking would have made of the books?
    Thank allways
    Tony
