On my way to RWA!

Sitting at the airport in Charlotte, working on a romance novel, on my way to the Romance Writers of America’s writing conference in San Antonio.

The Friday night meet-up is going to be an informal, ad-hoc affair. Probably one of the Marriott lobby bars. Whoever is there will just be part of the meet-up, even if they don’t wanna be. Tough luck. We’re going to force people to have fun.

My panel is at 2pm on Friday, in Salon 1 of the Rivercenter Marriott Hotel. The panel is entitled: THE DOWN AND DIRTY: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN OUTLIER. But I’m going to try and deflect that nonsense and talk about what it means to do what you love with your every spare moment, and damn the outcomes and the consequences.

Love this quote in combination with sitting in the airport working. “But I’m going to try and deflect that nonsense and talk about what it means to do what you love with your every spare moment, and damn the outcomes and the consequences.”

“…working on a romance novel, on my way to the Romance Writers of America’s writing conference…”

You know… starting a romance novel on your way to R.W.A. sounds like the kid who is frantically trying to finish his term paper on the way to class.

:-)

Have a good time and tell us all about it when you get back (you “outlier” you).

Not to judge, but this is like going to watch a ballet instead of attending your Prom. Comic-Con is this weekend and you should be hosting a panel/booth there.

Have a good time, Hugh. There’s an incredulous spouse joke in an RWA convention somewhere, but I just can’t find it.

You could pilot a Jaeger with Occulus Rift at Comic Con! What at RWA can match that?

Cool as that is, maybe Hugh would just prefer to hang out at a convention with fellow writers?

Your panel commandeering sounds awesome, Hugh! And I’m jealous — I’ve heard RWA is a blast. If you do it next year, I’ll see you there — I’m just about to enter the genre myself. Hopefully it goes well for me!

Damn! I was there – and I didn’t know you were. Though I am not in the published authors network yet, I would have met you at the bar to force folks to have fun. Your blog has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of self-publishing, as did other workshops at the RWA conference this year.

Meeting you was one of the many highlights of the conference! I had no idea you were there until you sat behind me in the Self-Pub Q&A. I’m the one who insisted on shaking your hand just to say I’d done it. Leave it to me to be in the company of such self-publishing powerhouses in the romance genre as Barbara and Bella and not get fangirly until you showed up.
