Interview with O’Reilly Media

Apparently my subconscious was scouting for ideas and while here in Canada on vacation this video gave me a cool idea for a book series I’ve been working on for the past few years. Thanks, Hugh!

Lovely interview. I’ve always wondered how you wrote Wool in pieces like that, as I like to have everything done before sending it out into the world for feedback. So it was interesting to hear you talk about your experience with that. My ears perked up when the interviewer asked you about the blog post you’d written on driverless cars, as this has been a subject of interest to me, too. Though for different reasons. I’d been reading about how programmers had to make tough decisions about whether to program your car to kill you (i.e. crash the car fatally) if it would save the lives of, say, a group of pedestrians. So, given that, I’m not sure how comfy I’d feel immersing myself in a book while the car drove. Though, if it was a good book, at least I’d go out happy. ;)

I am hooked on Howey like I was hooked on Heinlein as a kid. If there is a Dean of modern Science Fiction then Howey is that Dean! Do they still hand out Hugo’s? I vote Hugh Howey as Hugo Award winner for best Science Fiction. I think Robert Heinlein would have loved Hugh Howey’s stories.
