This Week on SILO

Only three episodes left in season 3, and things get crazy from here right up to the final shot. Can’t wait to discuss everything with you all after the season wraps. But this week is a very special episode in the Howey household. It’s cameo time!

Shay and I had an amazing set visit during the filming of season 3. I guess my character had caused some trouble since my brief cameo in season 1, because I ended up in the mines. But it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me, because I met the love of my life there!

A testament to the makeup artists we had for Silo that they were able to take Shay’s beauty from an eleven all the way down to a ten:

We got some shots with the other SAs on set with us, and our London friends who were able to join us on set:

And here’s a little before and after (from costume fitting to some time in the makeup chairs!)

It might take a sharp eye to find us in episode 8, but there was no guarantee we’d even make the cut! Cameos end up on the editing room floor sometimes. So when Shay and I were watching this episode for the first time, we nearly fell off the sofa when we appeared on-screen. We were so immersed in the story we forgot to look for ourselves! And there we were. It was one of so many unforgettable moments in the making of this show. Much more to share with you all over the next year or so, as the rest of SILO is aired.

    Thanks for the heads up Hugh. Can’t wait to see your and Shay’s dirty mugs! It has been fascinating to see how the story move on. How did you feel when the mines became such a big part of the series?

        Man that word has so much behind it. I confess I’m struggling with some of what I’m seeing, and am continuing based on more than a bit of both “hope”, and “trust”. The books were such a wonderful read, and thus far in season 3, the 2nd book is just not there for me, but I persist, hoping, and trusting.

        The fact that you are so positive about it is encouraging.

          You can always wait until after season 4 is complete and released and see what people who’ve seen it all think about the show. No need to watch something you aren’t enjoying!

            Thank you for your reply Hugh. Yes I could wait… actually no, I can’t. After watching the first season, a colleague and I read the books and loved them. Perhaps because they are so fresh in my memory, some of what I’m now seeing in S3 feels like a shift, and part of my fear is that this shift feels like it feeds into a narrative that aligns with some of todays politics which feels the opposite of what I thought the books were. Having just finished ep 8, I’m leaning more into “trust”. The show is stunningly produced, especially the future part, and it is, for me, not something I want to miss.

            I thank you for your books, and your story.

    Wow, it looks like you are really enjoying this journey!
    As a big fan and aspiring writer, I am wondering how this experience has been for you? To see your work “born anew” in a new medium must be something. To me, this series really feels like the world I envisioned when reading your books. Because we all know that when a show/film says “based on the book by…”, it doesn’t always succeed in capturing the feel or intention of the original text, despite the talent.

    Can I just thank you both very much for the photos ..
    I’ve been an SA for 4 years and out of over a hundred gigs , I was never able to get a behind the scenes shot due to NDA’s and having our phones taken during filming , so to finally have a behind the scenes shot is very special .
    It was a privilege to meet you both, but also a privilege to be involved in such a great production , that set was just outstanding, filming 3/4 back to back was amazing ..
    That’s me kneeling on the right in the group photo , shovel in hand .

    BTW ! Not having a phone was great, as I got to read your book on the set, which was very surreal .
