My Interview with Cole Drewes

This was an awesome interview. I loved the questions Cole came up with. Go check it out, and keep an eye on his artwork section. I think he’s gonna have some stuff up there soon. I’m talking with him about commissioning a WOOL piece. Oh, and he’s going to have a booth at this year’s New York Comic Con. So swing by and say hello.

Here’s the interview. Please leave a comment. We little bloggers go crazy over our comments.

  1. Thank you Hugh for doing the interview, it was awesome and I’m sure everyone will enjoy reading what you had to say! If anyone is interested I will be posting my artwork up soon, hopefully a piece dedicated to Wool in a month or so!! *Self Promotion* After you’ve read all of Hugh’s books feel free to pick up my Military Sci-fi novel Hounds of Heaven which is .99 for the next month! Thanks again Hugh!

  2. Great interview! Thanks for your honesty, Hugh. Just write! How profound and utterly true.

  3. Awesome interview! I will definitely be picking up Mr. Drewes book- it seems like something my hubby would enjoy.

Honestly,Hugh, you have been a huge inspiration to me. I have always wanted to be an author, but never really knew how to go about it. I haven’t started writing, but the ideas are in my head. I think about my characters every night before I fall asleep. Finding your Wool books and then discovering this website has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. As an English teacher, I have had the pleasure of meeting many authors, but none of them have been as interactive with their fans as you are. I have e-mailed authors in the past but never got a response. Whenever you respond to posts on here, I feel as if I am corresponding with a celebrity! So, thank you, thank you, thank you!

    1. Thank you, Jill! I was just thinking about you and a handful of others last night, so grateful to have fans who continue to check my site, interact with others, spread the word, etc… I feel blessed. Probably more than you do!

What you are doing by laying in bed and thinking about your characters is the most important first step you could make. Get to know them. Think about them all the time. It makes the writing go so smoothly.

  4. Great interview. Gonna check out Hounds of Heaven. Also glad to hear there’s more to come from Molly Fyde (I’m currently working on Blood of Billions). Can’t wait for your new work. I wanna be one of your lucky beta readers!

  5. !!!!!! Wool 9 progress bar?! I guess you are just skipping over 7 & 8? haha

    1. I was wondering if anyone would notice.

I knocked out 3,000 words today on what will be WOOL 9. I had the scene in my head when I woke up, got started, couldn’t stop. You kids are gonna FREAK out when you read this.

Still pondering what to do about Wools 6-8. I fear too many readers will find it boring backstory. I’ve thought about putting it up for free on my website so it doesn’t get slammed in reviews, then wait and publish 9 when I’m done with them.

      So much to think about…

  6. I sure hope some of that thinking is around that Super-Awesome-Zombie book you’re writing!! :)

    1. I’ve had a few fans tell me to please not write that zombie book.

I hope they’re not too harsh on me when I do.

**I dont know about everyone else, but I am super excited for boring backstory! Definitely anticipating Wool 9 already, though!

    1. Maybe I’ll let you read 6-8, then. :)

  8. Please do!!! :-)

  9. Hey Hugh, just wanted to let you know how much i enjoy the Wool series, i’m about to finish Wool 2 and i can’t wait to find out what’s gonna happen in the next books. Wednesday when my kindle finnaly arrived I started looking for some interesting freebies, not knowing it was the day you decided to put Wool 1 2 and 3 out there for free. Yesterday I started reading Wool 1, finished it and found myself mesmerized, I never thought a short-story could have such a deep impact on me. I immediately started to read Wool 2 and I only put my kindle down before finishing because it was 4 a.m. and I was beat after celebrating my birthday with my friends. I can’t wait to read the other Wool books, and everything else you’ve written and is available on Amazon. Keep up the great work, and don’t be afraid to let us emerge more in the Wool universe with the next books in the series.
Thank you Hugh, you’re truly a great inspiration for your readers and others who ever thought of writing a book.
    Best regards,
    Andrei

    1. Thank you, Andrei! I really appreciate your feedback. Glad you’re liking the story so far.

The scope and scale of the world will grow, but I’m not going to hurry it. It would be fun to play with this series for many years, but not draw out the publication between stories the way it normally works (I don’t want readers to have to wait). I hope to see two or three (or more) WOOL stories each year.

Keep in touch as you progress through the series. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

  10. I would love to read any backstory to the Wool series and be happy to pay for it too.

    1. Excellent! I’ll proceed as planned, then. Good to know I’ll have at least two eager readers.

  11. silly man—-of course we will pay for back story. Have to know how we got here from there.
