Molly Fyde and the Darkness Deep

Mr. Howey,

I just finished Molly book four and decided I needed to run through a chunk of your website, just to see what’s going on. I didn’t read in depth, just really browsed, but the Darkness Deep thing snagged me hard… more Molly, but so little information on it–none as far as I can tell.

Would you mind letting us little folk in on what your plans are concerning Molly books? I’m sure I’m not the only one interested.

Thanks,
Adam

Dear Adam,

Did my sister put you up to this? She’s been bugging me like mad for the next Molly book. I wonder if it has to do with the main character being named after her and the fact that she’s going to be on the cover of this one.

The next Molly book is actually quite close to being finished. I’d say it’s 90% there. And it might be the best Molly book to date. I had to set it aside when NaNoWriMo started last November, and haven’t really come up for air since. The WOOL series took off; I have people clamoring for the next book in that adventure; I have two other projects I want to get started; poor Molly has been sitting there, ignored.

It’s a tricky situation to be in. I have so many things I want to write all at once, and each of them demands a ton of my time. I’ve thought about delaying the WOOL series until the summer, but the demand is so strong right now. I’ve toyed with pushing the Zombie book to the front, but I don’t think many people besides me and a few others even care about that project. Then there’s Molly and Sand Land. It’s a conundrum.

My best guess for The Darkness Deep would be late summer, July or August. If I could get more people reading those books, writing reviews, emailing and bugging me, it could get bumped up. In other words: tell your friends. ;)

  1. Hello Mr. Howey – I just finished reading the first Molly Fyde book and since I’ll probably go through the next three in the next three weeks, I would like to read book 5 sooner than late summer! Also waiting for Wool 6.

  2. WHAT!?!? There is going to be another Molly Fyde Book? Where do I find Darkness Deep? Is Molly gonna go out the rift after the Berne? I hope Molly Fyde and Wool take off even further. I would love to see both on the big screen. I’ll be checking in everyday until Molly Fyde has it’s own little progress bar up top. Also can’t wait for Wool 6! Man you have a lot of writing to do! Your fans are quite demanding, eh?

    1. It’s a good problem to have. :D

  3. Well, I’ll be starting the second one soon. I’m spacing these out a little more than Wool.

  4. Honey, if the zombie book is about the perspective of a zombie in the whole apocalypse thing drop it. It is horrible.
Molly is children’s literature right? I could not getast the first 5 pages.
Wool is seriously good. Invest your time in that,
    Best,
    André

  5. I can’t wait for more Molly. and more Silo stories. Just like I probably wouldn’t read anything about yellow jackets, I will probably never read a story about zombies. I just don’t like undead evil.

Unless of course there are chickens involved. And sinkholes. Because really, what would be cooler than zombie chickens that come out of sinkholes? Except maybe if Molly discovers zombie chickens in sinkholes. Yep, that might be cooler.

  6. I’m torn–I love WOOL, but I also love Mollie (what is Edison up to these days?) and what you’ve shown us of “I, Zombie.” (I’m not even mentioning that I want to read more about the Half Way Home universe. Wait, I just mentioned it.)

  7. They all deserve to be added too. Every story so far has been nothing short of great! Mollie (correct spelling) is my favorite story. Children’s literature? Get off your pedestal! 5 pages doesn’t get you into ANY book. It really doesn’t matter, I have confidence that whatever comes out next is going to be great, and I will be one of the first to download it as soon as it is released. Keep doing what you’re doing and we will all follow!

  8. Michelle, Are you drunk? just kidding, no I’m not, yes I am… not.

  9. GR – Not drunk, just Aquarian. ;)

And sleep deprived. Because my brain doesn’t shut up.

I hope the Darkness deep book comes out sonn because i think the Molly Fyde books is realy good.

    So please finish it quick:-)

  11. My vote for priority would be Dust and then Molly Fyde! I am a big fan of your great work!! Keep it up. I tell just about anyone who will listen about your books.

  12. I absolutely love the Molly Fyde series, very creative, exciting, and hard to put down. I read all 4 books in April of 2012 and did not expect this surprise. Can’t wait for the new book to come out. Also love the Wool series, but considering how much more writing there has been on Wool, my vote would be for working on the new Fyde book. Keep up the great work and stay true to your roots. Some writers seem to get stuck in big sagas that they can’t get out of and spiral down hill with too much of the same thing over and over. Haven’t seen that with your work, so keep us guessing.

  13. This is me bugging you to finish the next Molly Fyde book. I just finished The Fight for Peace and adored it! I was in tears at the end.

I’m an Urban Designer and I’ve found myself attracted to books about cultures rebuilding after apocalyptic conditions, so I was first drawn to the Silo series (which was fantastic!). I enjoyed it so much I made it a mission to read all of your books.

I loved Half Way Home! It’s now one of my favourite books. I couldn’t quite get into The Hurricane, but I’m going to try again.

I never thought I’d like Molly Fyde; I was worried she’d be a hopeless, girly hero, but man was I wrong! She is a tough, inspirational character. You’ve done a great job and I’ll be coming back regularly waiting to see when the Darkness Deep is done.

    Keep up the great work!

  14. Well, I’m 50 something years old and am reading the Molly Fyde series for the second time.

I, in no way, consider it a children’s book. I’ve read a lot of teen books while my kids were growing up, and one thing for certain, Molly Fyde “ain’t no teen book”! As far as I’m concerned, it’s up there with Wool. Very well written and one of the few Sci-Fi books I have read that makes you feel as if the worlds and characters are real and that you personally know each and every one of them. I recommend the series to everyone. In fact, I just recommended it to my dentist the other day.

I read the entire Wool series, but I was left wanting more “Hugh Howey”. So, I decided to read Molly Fyde (again) and I am loving it all over again. I think it’s even better the second time around. I am catching and understating details I missed the first time through. I am taking my time this second time and savoring every word. I was hoping, though, that book 5 would be out by the time I got to and finished book 4 again.

  15. Hugh,

Any update on book five for the Molly series? I can’t even find it on your completion status tool bar anymore. I got really excited about that at first because I thought that it might mean it was complete and for sale. Then I got sad when I couldn’t find it for sale anywhere haha. I’m going to read all of your books brother… You are a huge inspiration to me. Stay shiny.

    Much love,
    ~C

  16. Hugh,

I am a huge fan of your books! I’m on a mission to read everything you have written, just finishing up Molly Fyde book 4. Please finish book 5 soon…we have to know how this ends!

    Keep up the good work
