We’re a measly three days from the termination of October and the dawn of another National Novel Writing Month. I guess it’s time to start narrowing down which book I’m going to write. There’s INVARIABLE, the story of a young girl raised like a lab rat by a cold, calculating father who was kicked out of the psychology profession for questionable ethics in research. There’s AFTER EVER AFTER, a satirical fantasy novel that picks up where most stories in the genre leave off (to hilarious effect). There’s HURRICANE, the story of a young high schooler trying to sort himself out amid the buzz and cacophony of this new digital/social-media age (a Catcher in the Rye with texting, perhaps). And finally, there’s HUBRIS, my sailing memoirs (working title).
Right now, I have two votes for HURRICANE and one for AFTER EVER AFTER. On a day when I should be plotting and outlining, I find myself vacillating instead. Oh, the joys of NaNoWriMo and crunchtime! If you think Halloween is scary for non-writers … give this a try!
