The Perfect Book to Steal

My “other” little short story is free today and tomorrow. THE PLAGIARIST is about a young college English professor who spends his spare time jacked in to artificial worlds where he steals their literature. It was written for a science fiction class I was taking at the time, and the main character is my loving homage to my professor and friend, Adam Griffey (one of the smartest and coolest dudes on the planet).

A story about a guy who steals books for a living. Sounds like a perfect excuse to do a giveaway. If you have a Kindle or a Kindle app on your PC or phone, go snag a copy. And tell everyone you know to do the same.

  1. Too bad I already bought it! haha The Plagiarist is one of my favorites! I still think I like The Hurricane best though.

  2. Ah! Stolen and spread the word.
    Thanks :)

  3. I had it in wish list, so thanks (to you and Ege, eheh)! :)

  4. …Why are your books going free AFTER I brought them all??? XD Nahh just kidding, they were worth waaaaaayyyyy more than what I payed for them… I am just getting giddy thinking about my signed copy of ‘The Hurricane’ being on it’s way… it’s gonna go up with my limited collectors editions of games and stuff…

I just cant wait to see 100% over

    here… I need something new to read that isn't a text book…

  5. Loved The Plagiarist
    Cost me ninety-nine cents but
    Was worth a lot more

  6. and somehow you manage to make a living doing this… ;)

  7. Thanks, Hugh! I’m sure I’ll love it just as much as “Wool” 1 & 2 so far!

  8. Got it, thanks! Though I just started reading the first Molly Fyde book (picked that one up during your fire sale!) and I can’t put it down. I had some serious doubts about my connection to a young heroine, as I am a thirty-something father of three. I’m absolutely lovin this universe you created!

You’re making me feel guilty absorbing these amazing worlds for free or pennies at best. You can be sure that I’ll be purchasing the rest of this series in short order.

    Again, thanks for the treat!

    1. You’re welcome! And I added a donate button to my website at the request of readers suffering from the guilt of entertainment-overload just as you’re experiencing!

  9. Just finished reading it.

    Wow. Simply amazing.

  10. Thanks for offering the story for free. I recommended it to my friends, and one of them informed me today that he liked it so much he bought the Wool Omnibus to check out more of your writing.

    1. My nefarious scheme is working!

  11. Hi Hugh!
Oh my gosh! This sounds like an amazing story!!! I really want to read it, but I don’t have a kindle… is there any way (since it’s free today anyways) you could email a PDF of it so I can read it on my computer? I’ll write a review after I’m done. ;)

    1. Sure. I’ll have to do it when I get home. I’m out of town and don’t have a PDF with me.

  12. Thanks so much! I am soooo excited to read it!

Just spent all recent waking hours reading Wool Series. LOVED IT. Don’t know why my Kindle right-justified Wool 4…not so happy about that, but otherwise looking forward to reading more of your work as well as more of the Wool Series. It captured me as much as Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game Series and Eoin Colfers Artemis Fowl series. Keep up the great work!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the stories! Do you have a Kindle Fire? I’m looking into the formatting issues on that device.

  14. Just got through this after a long wait. I had a big budget proposal going on at work, so most of my free time- well, there hasn’t been any free time.

Finally got to this last night and today, though and it was well worth the wait! Absolutely incredible. Even when I reached the point of suspecting what was coming, you kept it going strong and I was still blown away because of your great ability to create true feelings in your characters. Now, it’s off to finish up Wool 5 before the pre-trilogy starts up and some long overdue Amazon reviews to do my small part to spread the word!
